Inner Dimensions
A secret space for deeper connection
Inner Dimensions is an immersive video installation. It is about exploring our bodies in motion, our movement through the world, and how we move together through the space between us to weave a larger tapestry of connection. Our movements weave a larger tapestry of being, we are individuals and part of a whole.
Dancing between union and separation: The installation itself has been configured so that the interactive audiovisual composition evolves from individual to collective movements, where the audience is invited to move around an interactive area of 4x4 m. The installed motion sensors retrieve data sets of movements that are interpreted and visualised in different formats, starting from black and white visual versions of bodies in motion and developing into a more complex set of visual patterns influenced by what happens in the interactive area.
Following GAIA's method in the creative process, mitosis and the generative process of life from 1 to 2, 2 to 4, 4 to 8 and 8 to 16, Inner Dimensions achieves symmetry in the visual patterns as it does in the formation of life. It breaks the 2D rectangular interface surface and invites an intuitive play process and a new way of connecting with others through movement.
Inner Dimensions transforms an empty space into an interactive field and invites reflection on how individuals affect the collective whole through individual actions. The installation is designed as a meditative space where kaleidoscopes of movement are created. Here each person notices their part in the larger tapestry and how tiny movements, even in the fingertips, can have a beautiful rippling effect on the larger whole. Fostering a natural resonance between the parts of the larger tapestry, an organic synchronisation occurs with the players as they explore one while joining the tapestry of many.
